A Cobbler Sells His Wares
“Come now, my Ladies,
My beautiful Bairns –
You too, good Sirs,
Come and dance with my wares!
They can take you far,
They will take you wide;
Past the edge of the world,
They can match your every stride.
Beautiful Ladies, they’ll lift you;
Spin you through the night –
Curtsey after waltzes,
Make your step light.
You, fine Sirs,
They are strong and lasting for you!
They shall shine in the courts
And make you look new.
Even you, weary Traveler,
Have part in my wares.
They can take you through mountains,
Through winds foul or fair.
Come closer, strong Smithy,
And the Carpenter, too –
And you, merry Yeomen,
And the bright Lads green and new!
Come Seamstress, and Cook,
And you, my wee little Lass;
Bring your Mother and Sister
And if you see her, the Princess!
Gather round, gather round!
Haven’t you heard the Gossip’s good news?
You’ll find no finer or stronger
Than my own hand-crafted shoes!”
