As a child, I was dying to be a teenager.

Then, I was dying to get my license.

After that, I was dying to finish highschool.

After highschool, I was dying to start college.

While in college, I was dying to hit twenty-one.

When I turned twenty-one, I was dying to drink.

After I drank, I was dying to go home.

While going home, I hit a speedbump.

As I hit it, I realized I wasn't wearing my seatbelt.

As I went flying, I was dying to land.

As I landed on pavement, I was dying to get help.

When I woke up, I was dying to know what happened.

I looked around and realized,

I'm only twenty-one,

And I'm actually lying here,

In a hospital

Dying.

And that speed bump,

was lying right next to me,

dying sober.

The author's comments:

The main inspiration I had to write this piece was the fact that we were talking about alcohol and drunk driving in school. My teacher had read us a poem entitled, "Death Of An Innocent" and it really hit me then, and I thought to myself, 'Man, I wish I could do that!'. So, I stood up and accomplished my goals. I have read a poem partially similar formatting wise, and that gave me ideas. I have written more than this, but I'm still making adjustments. More to come soon!!
