A Soft Bundle of Sweetness
You scamper across my line of vision
With a look that is so adorable and irresistible
That I scoop you up into my arms
Stroking your unimaginably fluffy fur
More comforting than any pillow I could ever dream of
Though your occasional meows may seem ever so foreign to me
And I am certain that you can’t comprehend a single word I am saying
I could tell by the look of wonder in your innocent eyes
That you were listening
I endlessly confided in you
Because you allowed me to be my authentic self
Unlike the others, you never pointed out my flaws
Never reminded me of the person that I wasn’t
Of the person that I should be
You fall asleep in my arms so effortlessly
As if that is where you belong
As if I never have to let you go
The sound of your delicate purrs
Blocks out the sound of my heartbreak
Because I know that I have to leave you
And abandon you to the crude and unforgiving streets
I could never have the chance to cradle you permanently
For I am known as the one who has nothing to give you
I don’t have the home to shelter you from the storm of those outside
I don’t have the food for you devour without a care
I don’t have the toys to fill your days with mirth
I don’t have the cure to nurture you back to health
But I have all the love in the world to give to you

I have always had this unconditional love for cats, but unfortunately, due to circumstances I was never allowed to keep one as my own.
