broken
you don’t remember
how it looked
like shattered ice
strewn all over
the floor
you had cradled it
between your palms
for longer than
you could remember
but the one time
you forgot —
the one time —
you let it slip
so you bent over
to collect
its shards
to free
its past
and your own
you cupped them
in your firm grip
but they were
more firm
and found flesh
you forgot
your raspberry-stained
palms
that were too bitter
to have been
raspberry-stained
but they remember you
