Fall
All this fall
When I was hunting
I’d wonder what was to come by
Then it happened.
It really did.
She walked up to me
Along the edge of the tree line.
She calls out to the others in the field
And then she runs off.
It really happened.
I pull up the gun to my shoulder
And pull the trigger
I hit the target so
I had gone looking for her
Through the muddy pile of leaves
It was a 3 year old Doe
I’ll never forget the day
She walked up to me
Licking my face and smelling
My clothes.
I remember the day I got her.
