Nothing To Do
The changes started overnight.
I never could have predicted such a drastic evolutionary change.
In the weeks prior to this mutation my days consisted of doodling, procrastination, sleep, the average life of an average teenager.
Recently my days have passed into nights.
The nights are when it happens,
The pain,
Red lights,
The screams.
And then the day takes hold again and everything returns to normal,
As it was before the ¨changing¨.
The changes have progressed.
No longer do these phenomenons possess my nights.
They have started claiming my days.
I black out from the pain.
I’ve grown accustomed to waking up in strange places with no recollection of how I got there.
Stains have developed on my clothes.
The color of rust.
Tonight I have set up surveillance to track my every move during the changing.
The pain.
Red lights.
The screams.
This time captured.
The horror.
The violence.
Endless hours of footage of what my body has succumbed to.
No one shall know.
I search for clarity, a cure, safety from myself.
Deserting loved ones.
A quest for my holy grail.
The changing is now coming in waves.
Sometimes staying for days at a time.
Is this who I’ve become?
My summer passing in the blink of an eye.
Filled with painful, nonexisting memories.
I have become a spastic risk,
Unable to control the slightest of my actions.
My mind somehow trapped in a vessel completely of my own creating, controlled by an outside force.
They get me.
I do not remember.
Somewhere in the midst of the changing, they saved me,
But they’re scared.
Have I really been saved?
Interviews, polygraphs, scientists, wires, tests.
Secrets whispered as if uttered with too much volume the room would detonate.
Finally, It’s my turn.
I’m asked...
“How?”
Silence passes.
I know the answer as well as he does.
Maybe even less.
“Why?”
Subconsciously my body is no longer mine.
A voice gently slithers across my tongue and parts my dry lips.
To my horror it coldly replies...
“I suppose it was because I had nothing to do”
