mitt smultronstället - wild strawberries in a clearing in the forest
deep in dark woods
the pale moon shined overhead
brittle white sorel cracked
beneath my bare feet.
strayed far from home by something
something that must have lied ahead.
what could be hidden
beyond the impenetrable walls
of branches and thorns
that scratched my skin as I pushed them aside
dew collected on my nose and lips
slid down my face with salty sweat
quivering I found wild strawberries
vines emerged from dry dirt
broad leaves concealed
plump strawberries
hanging lazily
dancing diamonds in the dead of night.
