Heartbroken Keys
She could hear the notes of the piano
echoing throughout the room.
Her sadness and heartbreak –
pushed aside
as she focused on moving her fingers
and singing clearly,
with passion.
Every now and then,
the heartbreak would slip back into her mind,
but she kept forcing it out,
her fingers pressing the keys
to transform her tears into music.
The notes would go up and down,
high and low,
as her voice carried along with it.
She couldn't help but close her eyes
when the song came to an end,
and the heartbreak returned,
tears escaping her eyes,
as that last, low note echoed out
into the empty room
and hung there,
waiting,
eluding the sadness,
out there next to the notes from the past.
