Adopted
You think I am lonely.
That I wish to go back to where I came from
For I know no one of my ‘own kind’ here
You think I am broken.
Because I was an unwanted child
abandoned and taken by strangers
You think I am sad.
For I look nothing like my ‘american family’
And have to deal with people who look at me weirdly when I’m with them
Thinking I am lost or something
You think I am weird.
Because I seem too ‘American’
and don’t speak my native language
Or act like a real Asian
You think I am crazy.
For I should be more upset about this whole situation
Than I really am
You think I don’t know what love is.
For I know what it’s like to have a mother,
But not a mother who truly loves me like her own.
You think you know everything
You are wrong.
