Salt Water
She could taste salt water
On her lips, rolling down
Her eyes were the ones flooded,
But her heart was the one to drown.
And as the water poured on her
She felt the smooth, wet tile
The small room seemed even smaller
As she sat there just awhile.
Her eyes blood red, her cheeks pale,
Her hands were shivering cold.
With every drop that left her eyes,
Her pain grew tenfold.
Ready to follow the arms of death;
To let go of this world and be done,
She found someone was stopping her
from wanting mere oblivion.
It was none but life itself,
Her life that wanted to live.
With all its might, still holding her,
Her life still wanted to live.
As if on cue, a voice called out
Or so it seemed to her.
It urged her life to not let go
It urged her thoughts to stir.
And so she chose to rise from this;
To give up this refuge.
For hope was calling her, afar,
To rise from this deluge.
The sense of dread now passed away;
The tears were hers no more.
For they had mixed with pouring streams,
They were salt water no more.
And now, they collectively wonder,
"What took her so long to shower?"
Little do they know, for in that room
Her life had grasped new power.
