Trying to forget

I’m trying to forget.

How you tucked me in every night

With a kiss on my forehead.
The way you called me your little girl

And made sure everyone knew that I was.

How you came to every softball game

Cheering for me on the sidelines.

Calling me right when I wake up on my birthday

To tell me all the great things you love about me.

Taking me to concerts

Just you and I.

Coming in my room bright and early, tickling me to wake me up

Then laying with me to talk about life.

Trying to pull me towards you on the couch to cuddle

Even though I would complain every time because I was “too old”.

Texting me randomly just to see how my day was going

Then ending the conversation with an xoxo.

The sign language “I love you” sign you shot to me during every tough event that came my way

Given to me with a smile and genuine eyes.

Giving me flowers and a stuffed animal on valentines day

Received with a card with a handwritten note inside.

But slowly it all stopped.

The presents.

The way you spoke to me.

The small little things you did.

The I love you’s.

It all slowly stopped.

And now i’m trying to forget to make it easier.
