Home At Last
I had no home
I was frightened of something
Or someone
And it was hard to see
The night was blinding me
I had the moon
My only guiding light
Under the stars
The many stars within the lonely night
I was looking for the answer
Instead I found the question
And you
More than enough
For who could hear us in the silence?
So we danced
Just you and I
Drinking up our share of joy
All we have for life is all we need for love
When the night came
We were ready
All the songs in the world couldn’t touch us
Little bells in the night couldn’t blind us
As we fought a fight
So much greater than ourselves
With our love as our guide
Through the shadow
No need to hide from our nightmares
We wage war
But a cost, too high a cost
But it can’t be!
Such a cost must be paid
I won’t falter.
No matter the cost,
I will save you.
I cannot let the fire-
Please don’t leave me
I will do all in my power.
No, I need you!
But your laugh, and your smile,
As you close your eyes
Guide me through all peril.
Please.
Don’t forget me.
Be at peace
I am no longer afraid.
So I go home.
I will be true.
We won, oh, we won
the fight, the war
that could not be lost.
It was hard, even after you paid
the unthinkable price
It was worth it
I know
Though I don’t feel it
How could right hurt so much
Give the pain of a wrong?
Sometimes I’m tired
But I remember you
And your courage
You loved me
So I try
Yet I wish I were home
Home is where the heart is
In pieces
Without you
The moon
My only guiding light
To lead me through the silence
I only have the question
But I know in a little while
When I close my eyes
You’ll find the answer
I’ll be home.
