God?
I heard your tears are made of melted gold.
I heard mountains shake in fear as you yawn.
I heard you are as wise as time itself.
I heard you use the sun as a throne and earth as a footstool.
My Auntie’s told me ‘God’ is everything, are you the air I cannot breathe as asthma sits on my chest while the older boys chased me.
Are you the flowers soaked in crimson water, that watched and listened as my nose broke against the ground and the culprit was unlaced shoes.
Grandma told me trumpets play in Heaven, maybe that’s why you couldn’t hear me scream, as the shadows showed me they could move on their own.
I heard you are all-seeing, all-knowing and all-powerful.
I heard when you speak every dead man rises at attention.
Well, where were you when the voices got too loud?
Where were you when my will was crushed?
Where were you when the monsters in my head showed me they were tangible?
But, above all else, where were you when fallen one walked into my room and made me his own.
