Christmas Present
The sun sets and all is dark
Only crumbs are left from our tray of peppermint bark
A candle is lit with the strike of a match
The doors are locked with the flip of a latch
A fire is lit with a family gathered ‘round
Only Christmas smells to be found
The birds in the trees begin to sleep
As the shadows on the walls creep
A warm blanket covers you with a kiss on the head
Sleep soon comes with dreams of sleds
A cold wind blows through the window crack
Night comes in like a blanket of black
Sounds from above come from the roof
Stamps of feet from reindeer hoofs
A thump comes down through the chimney flue
A large sack full of toys comes through
Stockings are filled with candy and toys
For all of the little girls and boys
Then right on back up with a flash
With the crack of a whip and gone with a flash
The sunlight soon pours in to greet you
As well as the heavenly smells of the Christmas stew
The young ones trample down to see
What has been left with glee
A fresh coat of snow layers the ground
And Christmas songs are all around
Family and friends gather together
Laughing and playing in the cold weather
