shattering vase
The vase falls and shatters into unrecognizable shards. I carefully pick up the smooth vibrant pieces and glue them together.
I hold it for a while, proud of my work.
Then I get up to put it back where it should be.
As I walk out to the hall, I trip.
The vase flies from my arms.
The vase falls and shatters into unrecognizable shards. I carefully pick up the cracked vibrant pieces and glue them together.
I carefully place it on my table far from the edge, so it doesn't fall again.
Two of my mother’s cats come in,
One demands my attention.
The other slips by and gets on my table.
Looking to eat whatever is left on it,
Its lean body pushing aside the vase in its search.
The vase falls and shatters into unrecognizable shards. I carefully pick up the cracked colorful pieces and glue them together.
I move it in my bathroom, on top of a shelf surrounded by water.
The cats won't dare to go to it.
Even so, I sleep worried about the vase.
I check on it in the morning and see
Faded fragments laying in colored water.
The vase fell and shattered into unrecognizable shards. I carefully pick up the cracked dulled pieces and dry them off.
Then I crush the shards until they are nothing but sand.
I place the sand into an urn, careful not to spill a bit.
I hid it under my bed, behind the mirror so monsters won't get to it.
I sleep easy knowing that the vase can't shatter any more,
You can't break sand any further.
