Words
In a matter of years, there was a man on the moon,
And robots on Mars now too.
We’ve conquered the sea, the land and the sky,
So I guess I’m just thinking this through,
There are people starving all over the world,
Because the rich won’t give to the poor,
And there are wealthy elitists in office,
Oiling the gears of war.
It’s funny how we can put a man in space,
And surpass the limits of birds,
We can do what we thought was impossible,
But we can’t settle conflicts with words.

I wrote this specifically for an event. It was the Maya Angelou Poetry event in Winston-Salem, her home town. I was inspired by her poetry and what was going on in the world. Sadly things have declined instead of improving and progressing forward. I hope that people will read this and be inspired to use kinder and smarter dialogue to resolve their issues.
