Still of the Night
Take me to the darkest parts of the night
Where no monsters lurk
and no light shines.
Where the demons won’t touch us,
and the angels won’t look over us.
Let the still of the night be our guide.
Take me to the deepest parts of the woods,
where we are alone
but there is no silence.
Where there is no voice
but the soft murmurs of the flowers sound.
Let the music of nature cloak us.
Take me to the softest ground,
where we will do a first
and the will passion grow in seconds.
Where we become one
but our love doubles.
Let the embers of our hearts set aflame.
Take me to your heart,
where your darkest thoughts are
and your brightest feelings.
Where you must hold me tight
and promise me one thing,
Let us always be together.
Take me back to the night–our place,
where the sun doesn’t come up
and tomorrow hasn’t happened.
Where we are perfectly together
and all that has happened hasn’t.
Let us stay in this moment forever.
Take me back into your embrace,
where we aren’t separated
and you aren’t gone.
Where you went
but I did not follow.
Where tears will fall no longer.
Where we will find our way back to each other.
Let the still of the night be our guide.

This poem is about the way I feel as a global citizen. I have moved around countless times throughout my life, and so I've never truly lived in a place I've always grown up in or spent more than four years going to the same school. I've never had a single place to call my home, which is why I see the whole world as my home. Every new city is an exciting addition to where I feel I belong, and part of being a global citizen is finding both the familiarities and the unfamiliarities, comforting.
