Feelings
Oh, as the night closes in,
we turn on the crockpots of our minds
with Brazillian dreams
of tulip trees and coffeepot skies
free of fear.
Days tighten
like a Christmas caroler’s icy raincoat.
Days loosen
like a penguin on tranquilizers.
My life is a wooden penguin
that the homeless people in California
bow down to.
I feel as unanchored
as a rag doll.
I feel helpless
and sad.
