Exposition
At the start of most shows is an exposition
Giving context and clarity for all to see
The audience has no memory
Of the world before the play
But what if there was no exposition?
What if the fictional world is as confusing as reality?
What if the media became so lifelike
That no one is singing at all?
What if there is no exposition?
What if outsiders look in,
See what appears to be joyous and gay
And assume nothing of it?
What if they assume it’s fine when it’s crumbling,
When the world is shattering at their feet,
But there’s nothing to do but sing and dance and
Hope that they can stay standing by curtain?
