The snow falls gently,

Says the restless boy, with eyes of joy.

Hush, goes mother, goes mother again.

She reminds him of what they agreed upon.

Fine, he says, bowing his head

As he clambers right back into bed.

But the boy is coy;

He has a ploy:

I’ll sneak, he thinks,

Right out of the house.

Nobody will blink

When night has gone and nobody’s been roused.

And quick he goes,

Keeping light on his toes,

Past slumbering mother,

Though the door, and yet another.

Snow!

How it falls,

How it draws

The agape jaws

Of many.

Time stands complacent among the fluttering flakes,

Accompanying the snow as it drifts and coats

The ground in a frosted cake.

The boy starts in wonder;

He takes a dreamy step.

But is met with a ground seemingly torn asunder;

A ground of powder; the boy quickly goes under.

The snow falls gently on

The lifeless boy, once lively boy.

Boy, calls mother, calls mother again.

She calls for him until the break of dawn.

Snow!

How it stifles the cries,

How it hides

A boy

From the most watchful of eyes.
