Stained Glass Heart
I am a stained glass girl
with a stained glass heart.
I am a collage of jagged edges,
a tapestry of patched pieces,
a portrait of fragments.
I am shards and scraps and splinters,
the remains of ruined things,
fused by pain and memories
into something like art.
I am more beautiful when I am broken.
I am stronger when I am fractured.
I am more perfect when I am not whole.
I am a stained glass girl
with a stained glass heart.
You will never shatter me,
no matter how hard you try.
This piece was inspired by my struggles with self-acceptance. The journey to accepting who you are is long and difficult, and it is easy to think that we you are alone, that there is nobody else who is going through the same things that you are. This poem is meant to be hopeful and express the message that even though everyone is broken, we are still beautiful.
