Getting Older
To me, growing up feels bittersweet.
Sometimes, I love being a teenager.
I love going out with friends every weekend
I love laughing until I cry
I love dancing and being silly, nearly everywhere I go
I love giving and receiving compliments from random people in the halls.
I love feeling like I’m living, and not just existing.
And I’ve got a boyfriend now,
And when he looks at me, I feel emotions I’ve never experienced,
And I love that we do cheesy things that teenagers only do in movies,
Like swinging our arms when we hold hands, and watching the stars together. I love that life recently has felt like I’m living in my favorite rom-com.
I love being a teenager.
But sometimes I hate that I love being a teenager.
Because with all the sweetness and cheer, comes sorrow and fear.
I hate the pressure of growing up
I hate how time seems to be going by 10 times faster
I hate having so much responsibility
I hate how the world isn't just my own little bubble anymore.
But if I’m honest, there is beauty in growing up, even if it really scares me.
Growing up is amazingly awful.
It’s also amazingly exciting.
The beauty is in the ups and downs,
And the people you experience them with.
So maybe I am afraid of growing up,
But it’s a bittersweet feeling
That's worth the sting.
