We are saying thank you for the silver silence of the stars.

Cliffs are shattering beneath our feet,

and we are saying thank you.

For the flowers rotting on a rain-scarred grave,

we are saying thank you.

To the tattered butterfly, we say thank you.

While the lonely asteroids dance, we are saying thank you.

We say thank you while the cities slowly suffocate.

Because the three-legged puppy has finally learned to walk,

we are saying thank you.

We are saying thank you for the frantic strength of swarming ants.

For the rusted carcasses of abandoned cars,

we are saying thank you.

The forests are burning to bloody ash, and we are saying thank you.

To the weary bricks of the school, we say thank you.

For the white-hot magma of rage roaring in our veins,

we are saying thank you.

We are saying thank you for the shrieks of lean,

hollow-eyed cats in the damp dark of the summer night.

Though it is winter, and it is cold, so cold,

we are saying thank you.
