Forest of Night
Trees weave their branches
Into cloaks of silence.
The river tells secrets in every
Whisper of water rushing over rocks
But there is no one to listen
The wind hushes every leaf
and sings every bud to sleep
Shadows whirl and dance, hand in hand,
Leaping over fallen trunks slick with moss,
Like the bones of an ancient monster
From long ago tales
The moon huddled behind dark blankets of clouds,
Weeping over sorrows only she remembers.
The stars tremble and shake,
Clinging to each other in silent fear
