I feared losing sight.

Does it hold importance?

To see the stars alone -

from a closer distance than Earth.

Beside you, they are here.

The jury of time is dreading -

but the elapse does not daunt.

For the approach, I do not beg.

The author's comments:

My intentions behind this poem were to write from the perspective of a girl who used to fear the approach of death, but has learned to recognize the beauty in life after forming a new relationship. With the line “I feared of losing sight,” the reader is able to gain a sense for the anxiety that the speaker experiences, along with her longing for death and to “see the stars from a closer distance.” However, as the poem progresses, the reader is able to recognize the ways in which the person the speaker has written about allowed her to not only see the beautiful parts of life, but also helped her recover from the constant anxiety she used to feel.
