Our Lit Love
Your touch hurt as it grazed my skin.
Because it caused me to come alive once again.
I hadn't thought about any of it till I saw you again.
How we messed around behind the shadows hiding from it all,
hiding from them and all of our responsibilities.
You were a candle lit light that only grew brighter the longer I was with you.
While our time grew shorter as the candle wax melted.
and the candle wick burned and turned into ashes.
The wax fell on the palm of my skin where your hand would graze,
causing the sting of pain on my skin like you did with my heart.
Your scent stayed in the depths of my room reminding me of you.
You were supposed to come and go, because you could never stay.
You called me love.
You made me feel what love should feel like.
Then you blew out our candle leaving just enough at the bottom of the candle jar for hope.
Enough left to leave me hoping you would come back to me.
But you never did.
I threw out the candle long ago
So why are you here again?
