Dear Grandma...
One sun rose
When the other one set
A starry night
But one shines best
She twinkled and sighed
She blinked out of eye
And settled herself where the morning dew resides
She nurtured the tender grass
Until it flies
Her wings were worn
Aching and torn
When she cannot fly
With it by her side
She settled herself out of the limelight
She praised and supported
It beamed and soared
Over the clouds
Over the seaside
They laughed together in delight
Then she closed her searching eyes
And settled herself in the sky
I remember that day
Loud and clear
When she was not there
Not anywhere near
I flapped my leaden wings into the sky
And cried
“Grandma, farewell, I love you, and goodbye.”
