Still the same
You’re back, I see
With your skinny figure much taller than me You’re still the same As always
With the same haircut shaping your hair The same glasses framing your face
And the same love of learning
Still the same You said to me “ you seem different but I can’t put my finger on it “
And I was saddened
Because I have changed
Well, on the outside at least The outside changed through my highs and lows But the inside hasn’t changed much, really
While I may be different,
You are still the same
Confident in who you are Dismisses the worst of insults with a shrug Embracing your uniqueness Without a second thought And still kindness shines through
Along with your unsatisfiable curiosity
Oh, how I wish I could be you I don’t know how you do it But I want to be like you
Because though the ups and downs of life, I have become different
And you are still the same

This is a poem about a classmate I admire and want to be like. A boy named Critter.
