Outside Of My Window
I love everybody because of your love
Or lack thereof
Watching you brush with death
It’s as if you killed someone, body covered in pink blood that can’t be washed off
Wrinkled hands reaching for the can once again
The sun burns her aged skin
More and more petals fall to the ground
The floral smell becomes less fragrant
And yet each day she awakes and tends to her world again
I don’t think there's anybody more beautiful.

this piece was written for an art school application. The specific prompt was to write about something you see outside of your window each day, and so I chose to write about my mother taking care of a dying tree.
