mary did you know?
did mary know
when she held her baby boy
her firstborn child
her perfect little Yeshua
that she was going to lose Him?
did she know
as she delivered the promise of God
love incarnate wrapped in flesh
as His tiny frame guided its way
headfirst into the world
and He wailed out His first breath
that she’d watch Him take His last?
did she know
as she sat in the birthplace
of the temple lambs
cradling the unblemished lamb of God
that He too, would be a sacrifice?
did she know
as her child
was born into the dirt
and the grime
brought into the world alongside the livestock
that He would cleanse all mankind?
did she know
as she wrapped her beautiful boy
in strips of torn linen
and laid Him in a stone feeding trough
that this humbly born infant
was the greatest king
we will ever know?
did she know
when she cradled her newborn baby
that the child she waited nine months for
was the long awaited savior
the world had been waiting for since eden?
when she watched her boy
in absence of wrong
nailed to a cross
beaten unrecognizable
a crown of thorns piercing His skin
did His final cries echo His first?
was she reminded of His childhood
when she and joseph couldn’t find Him
in those 3 days before finding Him in the temple
did she fear of loss?
did she worry about her little boy?
in that anxiety did she know
she’d one day live that fear
of losing her child
of Him being harmed
with no way to save Him?
and as she wept
watching the firstborn of heaven
leverage against the nails
and fight for His last breaths
did she know
that her loss
would defy death
and nullify the permanece of grief
for all eternity?
