I am from
I am from a place
Where you don't snitch
Where you never call each other a witch
Or where you cry when you get hurt
I am from a place where you can smell all the food cooking
And hear the kids screaming in the basement
Where you can see the fresh gossip rolling in from that week
Where the kids came up with all sorts of games
I am from a place where the carpet was white or blue
Where we climbed on hard rocky dirt hills just to slide down them and hope for the best
Where the oldest was first in line for food
And where you can always smell whatever was cooking.
I am from a place where we would play big games with the family until 11
Where you could watch a movie and talk about for days
Where you played hide and seek
And did stupid dares
Where we would sneak around like foxes
And pretended to be bears
Where you looked for a ghost and tried to run
Where the laughter and screaming was always just around the corner.
I am from a place where we played red rover red rover
Until we fell over
Where we learned to dish up mashed potatoes
And cheeseburgers too
Where you learned to eat it even it tasted bad
I am from a place where liza and Kate would make up games
And we would play along
I am from a place where you would always come
Where you can always count on each other
I am from a place like no other
Where we learned who was killer
When playing mafia
Where you filled the money jar every December
And dropped it off to someone on Christmas eve
I am from a place where we are a big
Sometimes not so happy family
Where we don’t always get along
But always make it work
