Don't Fall in Rainfall

The rain:

Unfairly associated with solely sadness,

Pain.

Grief.

Sorrow.

Disdain.

Sure, there may be storms,

There may be hurricanes,

Tornadoes of thorns.

A dark sky only broke by lightning veins,

Flashes of panic, anxiety swarms…

But when the rain comes, let it pass you by.

Do not stand in it hopeless.

Do not let it drown you,

swallow you whole.

No matter it takes weeks, months, years,

Wipe your tears,

Because it will clear.

Know that rain is just a part of the seasons;

Just like sadness is part of your emotions.

It may show up without reason,

But learn that without its commotion,

You will not ever appreciate your devotion.

There is no sun without dark,

No sense of accomplishment that

You still have your spark

In spite of the pouring rain which you adapt.

No appreciation for your persistence through the rain,

Not a thought that you are still alive,

Breathing fresh air with a running brain…

And no idea what others you can help,

By a simple pass of an umbrella.

The author's comments:

I wrote this piece inspired by my own struggles and view on mental health. Emotional lows are like heavy rain, but you can't let them completely drown you and eventually things WILL improve.

I realized this after things cleared up for me mentally, and I even became proud of myself. I learned that it made me a better person in a way---it sounds pretty contradictory but bare with me. Sure I still have minor struggles, but like my poem describes, I likely would not appreciate my persistence, existence, or realize what other people I could help if I had 0 obstacles and everything was perfect all the time.
