The Life of a People Pleaser
When you are told you are nice, you smile.
They pick and tease you relentlessly yet you still suck up to them.
Because you’re afraid.
You’re afraid of the consequences.
You’re afraid of what they’ll think.
You’re afraid you’ll lose the closest thing you have to a friend.
Your choices revolve around them.
You’re like a puppet on a string.
Are your thoughts even your own?
Is your mind even your own?
Are you even your own person?
Unsure of how to react, acknowledge, or downplay.
Your kindness, both strength and weakness
Standing up for yourself is futile.
You’ll only make things worse.
When you finally develop a will of your own, you’re labeled as harsh and cruel.
Forget going back to your old ways, you’ll only be seen as a liar.
Now that everyone hates you.
Now that your image is ruined.
Now that the tiny spark of hope has dissipated,
You might as well be a monster.
