“If you only do what you can do, you will never be more than you are now.” - Master Shi Fu, Kung Fu Panda 3

All the worries wear me thin,

My own free thoughts claw from within.

Nothing left but a box

With ribbon tying the chaos together.

Drowning, drowning.

The waters surround my heart

And make it beat so hard it falls apart.

Nothing left but red ashes and tears.

Drowning, drowning.

The smile is next, that reached to the ears,

But not anymore, it clenches and fears

That people will come with stronger jaws and stronger cheeks,

Ripping out the last of its teeth.

Drowning, drowning.

The eyes are last; they still open and close.

They dwell to see all the bright fauxs and foes,

Losing track of time in the endless sea of sorrows.

Drowning, drowning,

Drowning...

The author's comments:

I wrote this piece as a sophomore in high school, stressing about school while also dealing with problems in my social life and the death of my grandpa. It is the first poem that I wrote as a coping mechanism to feeling overwhelmed, and it opened my eyes to the cathartic advantages of writing poetry.
