Middle School Is A Maze
I wake up every morning next to five alarms ringing in ear my
And still manage to be late
I picked out an outfit so I could fit right in with the other girls
Because god knows you can't be different
I try to look a little presentable
Without ruining my face and hair
Because beauty is pain
As I remind myself that every day
I shove my feet into those blood-blistering Nike blazers
Every morning so that I wouldn't be the odd one out
I pass by all of the brainwashed human beings
Whose Lives are a living social media platform
As I make my way to an empty seat on the bus
I walk into school with a fake smile
That traps all the indescribable feelings that can't be unwashed
I go to the bathroom at least three times a day
Only to witness a stranger in the mirror
Who somehow stole my appearance
And replaced it with a completely different girl
I walk past the same groups and clicks in the halls
That I once was friends with in elementary school
Now I can't even show my face around them
Facing middle school is like stepping into a maze full of twists and turns
Where every corner holds a new challenge to navigate
And I still manage to get lost

I wrote this poem to talk about the tough things kids go through in middle school, like trying to fit in and being someone who they are not. The purpose of my poem is to show how kids our age sometimes feel unsure about themselves because they want to fit in with everyone else. It can be tough when society expects us to be the same as everyone else instead of being our unique selves. My poem talks about how we all struggle with figuring out who we are and how we can be okay with ourselves, even when we feel pressured to be like everyone else.
