The night began like any other.
Us resting on that dense black bench.
Talking from every corner of our minds.
Watching over the lawn and commons.
Those lights, like a Nashville Aurora Borealis
I hold you in my arms, your head on my shoulder.
The moon lies heavily in the sky.
like a concrete ball floating in the ocean.
The night rests on our eyes.
I feel tired, and yet alive and awake.
This miracle of amore takes control.
I lay a kiss on your lips.
A sign of my affection and admiration.
Your beauty and mind, their brilliance the same.
The tire sets in and you lie on my lap.
I look into your eyes and wonder.
If someone like me deserves to be
in the same room as someone like you.
I brush your hair and hold your hand.
As the night goes on so beautifully.
The sunrise bursts in on us, and opens your eyes.
From a night spent with no time wasted.

The author's comments:
I wrote this shortly after I spent my last night in Nashville with this girl who meant the world to me. I knew I'd never see her again. I never wanted to forget that night together, so I wrote this so i'll always remember that night, and how much it meant to me. It's been many months, and this poem hasn't failed in making me happy yet.
