10 Years
One day when I grow up
I want to be able to think back
on all my old best friends
from high school
I’ll be going to the ten-year reunion
and I don’t want to see you
there and say, “It’s so good to see you
after all these years.”
I don't want to see you
there and we have to catch up on all
that we’ve missed in each other’s lives for so long
I don’t want to see you
there and not even remember your name
or you can’t remember mine
because through and after these
high school years
only so many friendships can make it
and for some reason that I don’t know,
ours will make it through
whatever life throws
and I won’t have to see you ten years
after graduation and have to
remember what kind of friendship
it is that we used to have.
