That Boy
That boy lives down my street
in a house a little smaller than mine.
With a family of a little less love
and a closet of clothes not as neat.
That boy goes to my school
with headphones that drown out his world
but what a world that drowns you back,
to him its natural rule.
That boy takes long walks
of why I do not know
but from the shadow under one eye
I wish I could walk with he who not talks.
One day that boy was gone
headphones and long walks too
I wondered if I’d ever see him again
that boy who lived down my street.
