When The Crystal Leaves Fell
Do you remember when the crystal leaves fell?
They danced among the tree tops, their heavy burdensome weight.
The ground shook beneath us, like a single chord struck in an empty room.
We covered our ears, but still heard the sound.
White fire burst from our breath, disappearing into the sky.
Then the crystal leaves fell.
Do you remember the touch of winter’s rope?
As it wrung around our necks, and Stoll the whiteness from our breath.
Distance no longer was, and kinship sailed away,
In a ship full of jewels, followed by a midnight shadow.
We never saw it again.
Do you remember, the night the sunshine dropped?
It fell beneath the earth itself, and knocked the moon around.
Don’t you remember, when the crystal leaves fell?
Like glass they shattered on the pavement, turning into sand,
Blown away by passing wind, negligible, in the past.
