Nightmare
The sky is yellow-gray,
sunlight filtering though the
dirty
dark
clouds,
heavy with rain.
Thunder rolls from directly above,
and the floor trembles beneath me.
The Earth is furious;
she's ready to deliver her wrath.
The sound is both terrifying
and absolutely exhilerating.
I stand in the middle of the wide street,
my face turned up to the clouds,
waiting for the rain.
A strange knowledge draws the life out of me-
I am all alone.
Panic fills my chest and
I glance at a nearby puddle
to see the tiny ripples
turn into rings that reflect
the uglyness of this unfamiliar world.
Fear takes over
and my body shuts down-
my stomach sinks,
my head grows dizzy,
and my legs feel heavy.
Again the sky rumbles,
threatening to explode
but all I can do is shake
uncontrollably.
The loud shattering of the sky
forces me awake.
I'm lying in bed,
sheets tangled around me.
I'm startled to find the tears on my cheek
the moment thunder rolls outside.
