Freedom is not Free
They fight and die so we can live
In a country without
War.
Their blood is shed solely
So ours wont be.
I stood nearby and watched,
As the men came back from war.
Everyone around clapped
For their strength and love
Of this country.
In my head, I heard the battle
Occurring far away,
The cries from these, our gallant men
Five thousand miles from home.
'Twas then my eyes were filled with tears
And truth came clear to me,
these men paid a terrible price
For Freedom is not Free!
I later passed by memorials of other wars we fought;
These are the graves of fallen men
Who lost their lives for me.
They chose to die so we could live
Without the hateful wars.
They chose to give themselves up,
So we wouldn’t have to.
A wall was there with polished rock
To honor those who died.
I sat in front of it and thought
Of those who fought the fight.
Then emotion filled my troubled soul
I could not speak nor see,
The truth was on that weathered stone,
Our Freedom was not Free!
