"In school, my teacher had us
write down what we wanted to
be when we grew up. I wrote
down "happy". She told me I
didn't understand the assignment.
I told her she didn't understand life."

Calloused toes sizzle
On dunes
of sea-shell sand.

Flip Flops flop
On the rocks,
And waves caress the shore.

Going home,
back up the street,
returning to the world.

No souvenier,
Except, perhaps,
The sea salt on my cheeks.
