Friendship is a Prize
Friendship is a prize
That I have given you
I expected you to cherish it
To guard it as though it were new
Yet you have let it slip
And now it lays shattered upon the floor
I am broken and hurt
Yet, you don’t care anymore
I entrusted you with this prize
For more than sixteen years
And now you are getting rid of it
You are ignorant to my tears
You step over the broken pieces
And hold the girl you love
And yet, I still lay here
I wonder why I’m not enough
I’m tired of chasing after you
And making everything better
You only scoff and blow me off
Saying that it does not matter
You seem to have lost the game
I am ready to take my prize back
There are people who deserve it more
Friends that I don’t want to smack
You cheat, you lie, and you sneak
You just don’t understand
That friendship is a prize
I love you, but I must make a stand
I’m taking back the accolade
The love that I have given you
Friendship is a prize
And for now I must say adieu
