Autumn
I feel the cool crispness in the air
Brightly hued leaves fall everywhere
The sun rises later and sets much earlier
Than it did those glorious summer months
When the days were long and glowing
But that has given way to the chill of Autumn
The birds are migrating and the squirrels are hiding
Taking cover from the imminent summer months
The sky is already overcast and gray
The sun shines less and less each day
Yet I feel joy course through me
When I look out of my bedroom window and see
The leaves that have not yet fallen from the trees
The contrast of those grand colors, shining bright
Greeting me from the day into the night
But I know not to grow used to it
For I know the shades of red, yellow, and orange are fleeting
So I enjoy each passing moment
And watch the days go by
It is better to enjoy the temporary beauty
And know that this is not good-bye.
