My First Day
The halls were crowded
The buildings big.
My heart was pounding,
My eyes were wide
And my stomach was filled
With butterflies.
It was my first day
Of sixth grade
And public school too
So you can probably infer
That I didn’t know what to do.
With my map in one hand,
And my long schedule in the other,
I wandered the halls
Trying to find my way.
I walked alone
No friends at this school
And just wished I was back
In my familiar plaid jumper.
