Last August MAG
Sunlight reached into the room
Its veins bending through the glass,
Watercoloring an aura
around his fist-sized head
like a helmet.
A football player
he will be.
Strong legs
that have been running in place
for months
conditioning himself for
Friday night games
under the lights.
The student body chanting his name;
a fraction of the fans
he'll have as a professional.
His eyes are
a blue which I have never known
but now I will never
let myself forget.
His toothless smile.
His breathless cries.
The way he grabbed onto my finger
when he first realized
that even if he never knew
I would always be his mama.
