Goodbye, Sun
as he draws carnations and roses
in the cloud-lined landscape
of the west.
The washed out bracelet
you got me from the beach
dances off my slippery clean wrist,
wrapped itself around a silver ribbon:
an arm-in-arm, hand-in-hand, near perfect fit.
I unraveled the new yellow balloon
I had clutched in my palm,
blew long, full breaths of air inside,
my lungs' final offering to you,
wrapped my breath around the silver ribbon.
I held the bracelet at arm's length
as yellow and silver stretched towards the sky light,
let it dance off my fingertips;
let you dance into the setting sun.
Then my back burst
as white wings sprouted out
and carried me like a stork
towards the east.
