The Third Wheel
I sat on my ocean blue
Bed, cradled in the middle
Of all my childhood memories,
Their comfort bringing
More relief than any living
Being, it made my mascara
Run, when I recalled
All the nights I cried myself
To sleep because Mommy
And Daddy were leaving me in the
Care of my nanny, who paid
More attention to
My baby sister than me
I was the third grown-up in
The family, the one who did
As she was told and never
Thought differently.
The one that in secret cried
Herself to sleep most
Nights, the only real comfort
A few stuffed bodies and
Fake eyes.
