if I too could,






reach up high the fiery depths
of darkness—

towards the blinding abyss
engulf the bright stars of black
H O LES
centered onto great galaxies

chas-

ing at
fleet-
ing wish-
es
with an insane passion—

insane sanity
an obsession quenched
by a thirst of a thousand
dying seas

grasping at
certain ghosts of
unfulfilled dreams

with tainted Machiavellian hands—

a worthless war and
a victory un-won,
deafening cries
shout a lifeless
silence…

devoid of all emotion!
devoid from all compassion

devoid
of all
reason

The author's comments:
This is a modernist poem about my anguish over the college admissions process. I am one of many teens in America who devote all their lives and energy for the sake of getting to the college of their dreams.
