Freedom
She stands in the harbor of New York.
It stands on the bay of the Mississippi
In the bustling city of St. Lou.
What are they, you ask?
Hope
Love
Freedom
Symbols of agony
Of pain
But, most of all, struggle
Struggles of the ones who made our dream of America come true.
They go by names of
Washington
Lincoln
Lewis
Or Clark
Or maybe
Tubman
Du Bois
Jackson
Or even X
Yes, my friend, these are the ones who made the symbols we love come alive
And speak for the dead.
They “healed the world we live in”, like Mr. Jackson said, or made it “the duty of the public to know”, like the reporters that exposed the dark secrets said.
They stand for
Life
Liberty
And the pursuit of happiness
